Elena Sangro as Proserpina, queen of the underworld, from Guido Brignone's Maciste all'inferno, in which the strongman is dragged down to Hell and declines to behave. Bartolomeo Pagano had been playing Maciste since Cabiria in 1914, making him arguably cinema's first recurring hero, a decade before anyone used the word franchise.
The Hell sequences are full of transformations, flame effects and devils on wires, and the production reportedly injured several performers getting them. Federico Fellini said watching it as a small child was his earliest memory of cinema, and its fingerprints are all over the grotesques he filmed forty years later. This sheet is a promotional card from Ed. A. Traldi of Milan, number 714 in its series, rather than a theatrical one sheet.
