The relentless building block video puzzle! Originally designed by Alexey Pajitnov, Tetris first hit the videogame scene on June 6, 1984. The name is a play on words, combining the designer's love of tennis and the Greek word of "tetra-". Most of us might know Tetris as a mind-boggling puzzle game, but the game was actually one of the first entertainment titles to be sent over from the USSR to the United States. Tetris is arguably one of the most popular puzzle games of all time, and can be found on almost every single type of video game console or computer system imaginable. The game could be found everywhere from eighties arcades, home computers and later, for Game Boy. Surprisingly enough, the game is based on an actual puzzle game involving polyominoes, which date back to the early twentieth century.
