It went through several directors, the Tin Man was recast after the original actor reacted badly to aluminium dust makeup, and the Wicked Witch makeup was toxic enough to restrict what Margaret Hamilton could eat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBuddy Ebsen was the original Tin Man and had to leave the production after a severe reaction to the aluminium powder makeup. The transition from sepia Kansas to colour Oz was a technical showpiece, and the Technicolor lighting made the set brutally hot to work in.
