The singer Helen Kane sued over the character in 1932, claiming it copied her boop-oop-a-doop delivery. She lost in 1934 after the defence produced evidence that the scat style predated her, including performances by Baby Esther Jones.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCab Calloway was rotoscoped into several of the cartoons. She was originally drawn as a dog, and her ears became her hoop earrings.
