I loved this show as a kid. Hot girls, an ex military guy with serious Vietnam flashbacks, a guy who thinks he's a gangster, and a cool black guy who owns his own helicopter, all set in Hawaii. I was born there and love going back.
Even the theme song was extremely cool, in a 80's porn sort of way. The guys at Family Guy seem to be fans too, as this Family Guy clip shows. Also, just to show what a cultural black hole the entire 80's were, check out this newspaper ad for a Magnum PI look alike contest.
The fact that they managed to crowbar a hot chick in a bikini into pretty much every episode also endeared this show to me.
For the record, the two dogs that Higgins would sick on Magnum all the time were called Zeus and Apollo. I also found this really weird montage video featuring Magnum clips, as well as Rip Tide and a couple other shows. I am not exactly sure what it is about. Looks like some kind of New Age energy flow site or something.
