Both writers, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, also starred in the film alongside Bill Murray. The story follows the trio as they hunt down ghosts in New York City. Other stars include Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Ernie Hudson. The story was originally considered as a project between Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. The movie was released in 1984 and it was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song. Over the years, the movie has been remembered as an iconic film from the eighties. In 2016, a reboot of the classic film was released, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Neil Casey, Kristen Wiig, Andy Garcia and Chris Hemsworth.
