CSI: Miami was the first spin-off of the popular CSI series and went a full 10 years in production. At one point the BBC News named it the world's most popular TV show as it appeared in more countries top 10 lists in 2005 than any other.
The main protagonist Lt. Horatio Caine has been described as an amalgam of "the spirits of all the laconic American law men who proceeded him". Quite a legacy to live up to. The show like CSI was more about the science of criminology than hot girls in bikinis on the beach and held true to that. The producers expected other networks to copy the format of CSI and decided to beat them to the punch by doing it themselves. Clever. Rather than being filmed in Miami it was actually shot in Manhattan Beach California. Anyone who grew up near one ocean or the other should be able to tell the difference between the Atlantic and the Pacific.
