John Coltrane
Affectionately known as "Trane", John William Coltrane was originally from Hamlet and High Point, North Carolina. Coltrane is known for being an iconic figure in the genre of jazz music. A renowned saxophonist and composer, Coltrane is considered a pioneer for his work and impact on jazz music. After his time spent in the Navy, Coltrane began touring with musicians like Jimmy Heath and later with the Eddie Vinson Band. Coltrane was inspired by other musicians at the time, such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, who he worked with in the fifties. In 1959, he released his first album called Giant Steps with Atlantic Records, and a year later, he released My Favorite Things. In 1964, Coltrane released A Love Supreme, which later became one of his best selling albums with the Classic Quartet.
