This shirt is a bit of a sore point for me. You see, last year at the clothing trade show I go to twice a year for clothing I met with Jinx, the company that produces this shirt as well as any number of shirts, including all the WOW shirts I carry. I was speaking with the art director and told him how well the Steam Punk controller was doing for him. Like any good art director he pumped me for new shirt ideas. My idea was to make a steam punk version of da Vinci's famous Vitruvian Man. The art director looked me in the eye, said he'd work on it, and let me know what came of it.
Fast forward seven months. I am looking at new stuff from Jinx and low and behold there is my idea. What really bites is they came out with this shirt about two months after I gave them the idea and they never told me, so they have been selling my idea for months without me knowing. Also, I think they screwed up the design. I won't show the da Vinci image as it features nudity, but if you look it up it's nice an clean. Easy to see. This image is way, way too busy. Also, that dark gray color is a terrible choice, and the dark green they put the women's shirt on is almost as bad. Now that I am printing my own ideas next time I will bite my tongue and print it myself, and Jinx can bite me.
Anyway, another steam punk shirt. I'm glad to have it as I do like the concept and am looking for more steam punk stuff, in spite of it's limitations. I'm trying to find something weird about da Vinci, but honestly am being overwhelmed by mediocre choices. Do I really think a remake of the Last Supper done out of laundry lint is that interesting? No, not really. Nevertheless, here it is
. I think this is another one of those weird things seems to only attract people who think they are creative but more or less aren't. .
I'm kind of out of steam punk stuff to talk about. I have done a bunch. I've often wondered a couple things about steam punk, however. If the concept is all valves and steam with no electricity, how then are they able to come up with ray guns? Seems at some point, no matter how small or complicated valves can get, you will reach the limitations of moving components.
Still, it's fun in concept.
If, on the other hand, you don't like steam punk here is a steam punk sucks
blog post that is at least interesting.
I am more or less uninspired by this shirt now that I have gotten my Jinx rant done. I think I will bail here and hold off on doing the girls one. More next time.
