When I was a kid we had one of these. Unfortunately it was more my sisters than mine, and was pink with flowers on it. Equally unfortunately we never had money for records, so what we had to listen to was whatever random stuff my mom picked up from the thrift store or was given to her by our more well-to-do neighbors. Somehow this included a number of weird albums, including a couple of spoof records similar to what you would find on
Dr. Demento. I remember fondly "
On Top of Spaghetti" (
done to the tune of "On Top of Old Smokey).
The weird thing is I used to lay there on the floor listening to the same 4 or 5 LPs over and over again without doing anything else. These days I can't even watch TV without having something else to do, and the idea of listening to the same song twice in one day bores me to tears.
I always thought kids were supposed to be the bored ones and adults the patient ones, but I don't know. Maybe I'm regressing somehow, or perhaps it is a symptom of the
media bombardment we live in today.
In case you were wondering, the
world’s most expensive record player (
technically a turntable) retails for $300,000. A little outside of my budget I'm afraid, especially for what is more or less a dead media (
incoming tech nerd hate spam). I think I would have to settle for the $112,000 model. Some people have too much money.
Anyway, this shirt makes me smile. I like clean and simple designs.
