OK, I know there is no direct correlation between goth and steampunk, but there does seem to be an indirect link.  I think it's a case of convergent evolution; the mentality that likes goth is also predisposed to liking steampunk.  I personally am a fan of steampunk and, while I have never felt the need to wear all black, never go out in the sun, fantasize about being a vampire, or sit around listening to Alien Sex Fiend, I have always found gothic girls attractive, like the Damned, and for some bizarre reasons too off topic for me to get into here (not a choice I made) have black carpet in my apartment and have no problem with that (except for the fact that I am always tripping over my black shoes when I leave them on the ground).

I found an article on Black Waterfall that talks about goth/steampunk fashion that seems kind of cool, if short.

I think a big part of my liking of steampunk is the amazing creativity that goes into some of this stuff.  Check out this amazing steampunk guitar.  Extremely cool.  

Holy smokes!  Check out this steampunk MP5 machine pistol!  My god is that beautiful.  I think when I am on my way to conquering the world my evil minions will all be equipped with weapons like this.  I want people to be awestruck by the menace and majesty of my conquering armies.  

Seriously, when you think about it, when did weapons have to get so boring?  Back in medieval times swords were adorned with engravings, gems, and all kinds of adornment while armor was covered with amazing heraldry.  Nowadays it's all either black or camouflage.  It's like the combined forced of planet Earth lost a war against the forces of mundanity.  Honestly, it's about style, people.  The only branch of US forces that still has any kind of style is the US Marine Corps.  Those Marine dress uniforms are sharp.  Honestly, for anyone considering the military from a fashion point of view there really isn't another choice.  

Actually, I grew up in a town very close to Camp Pendleton, and around there no one joined anything else, except for the few guys who joined the Navy SEALS.  No joke.

I think I have milked the steampunk cow dry, so I will not try to force more out of this description.  I'll go deeper on the next one.
