I love doing these steam punk shirt descriptions because they give me the opportunity to find cool steam punk costumes and devices to link like these extremely cool
steam punk light switches. If you people would just buy more t-shirts I could hire the help I need to do more of the day-to-day stuff this site requires and I could have the free time needed to pursue my recently acquired steam punk aesthetic. I could concentrate on blogging, writing these descriptions, and building a really cool
steam punk keyboard to type those on.
Instead, I am stuck in front of my computer all day managing inventory, approving orders, writing purchase orders, and packing up for conventions.
I lie. I love working on this site, and even the mundane stuff is kind of cool. I think the best part is getting feedback from you, the customer. That's no line, either. I always enjoy hearing from customers, so if you are bored feel free to either write something in the review section or send me an email through customer service (especially if you are single, brunette, and female with elfin-like features).
Enough of my pathetic cry for attention. Let's talk steam punk. Actually, this girls version of this shirt does very well at the conventions and always seems to go to a really cool girl, so I have to make sure I do good job on it. I just read that one of the books that had a major influence on the creation of steampunk was the book
the Anubis Gate by Tim Powers. I remember starting to read this book and dropping it after a couple chapters. I guess I was bored, which is weird because Tim Powers wrote two of my favorite books of all time,
Last Call and
On Stranger Tides. If you haven't read those two books you really should. They are exceptionally good. I should probably give the Anubis Gate another go. Maybe I can download an eBook version and read it on my iPhone.
Hmm. I tried to find a steampunk house but instead found something with steampunk house in the URL but seems to be mostly making furniture out of old books. I think I will forgo linking it, as I don't like to be mislead. This other house highlighted on
Steampunk Workshop seems closer to what I would like to see, but still seems a little slack. My steampunk home will have a lot more gears.
Here's a good one. I found a
steampunk home that I would be happy to live in. One day.
This is cool. Here is a site called
All Things Steampunk that seems be pretty much all things steampunk.
Given the vast number of genre's I have made fun of, I guess it would by hypocritical of me to do nothing but laud praise on steampunk just because I happen to like it. Like all sub-cultures steampunk has it's participants who take it just a little too far. Check out this kind of ridiculous
steampunk toilet. Something tells me that the mechanical operation of this toilet could lead to humorous disasters.
O...M...G... While looking for other ridiculous steampunk stuff I just came across a post on the Escapist (good site. Check out Zero Punctuation) about a movie that is supposedly getting filmed as I type this called (no joke)
Steampunk Samurai Biker Chick. I can only hope it is so bad it is good. Sounds like a good candidate for my friend Brian's Wednesday night bad movie party (the party that subjected me to
Zardoz, a movie so bad I actually felt stupider for having watched it. You could hear brain cells dying a painful death as the movie progressed. Trust me, there is no hipster kitsch value in seeing this. All you will have is two hours and about 10 IQ points wasted. Don't do it.
