I found a great Grudge Match article on the ultimate spear carrier matchup: Red Shirts Vrs Stormtroopers. While I am most likely more a Star Trek than Star Wars fan (if only because they haven't done a prequel death spiral with Star Trek yet, although some might argue that the last movie was a step in that direction) I happen to like Stormtroopers more than Red Shirts. They just have the cooler, more menacing armor and guns.

Red Shirts have been around throughout history. Apparently Red Shirts were non-violent protesters for Indian independence that preceded Ghandi. Given how often the Star Trek Red Shirts set their phasers on stun, an argument can be made that they themselves were non violent. The followers of Giuseppe Garibaldi in Italy were also called Red Shirts, but I am having a hard time figuring out exactly who they were fighting for or against so I won't get into them. The Red Shirts is also a WOW guild (22nd on their server. For the record, my guild is 4th).
