I don't really have a nerd reason for ordering this shirt. I just like to look of it. Unfortunately, the black got really badly washed out when we shot it, and I can't seem to fix it without completely losing the image. This shirt looks a lot better than this photo allows it.
Enough about my photographic and Gimp inadequacies. Let's talk about Samurais. The worst looking Samurai costume I ever saw was probably in the horrible movie Cave Dwellers, staring Miles O'Keefe. Fortunately I saw the MST3K version, which made it painfully fun. However, the film would be agonizing without Tom Servo, Crow, and Joel making it tolerable.
Sometimes the web surprises even an embittered soul such as I. I did a search for bad Samurai costumes and thought I struck gold. Apparently this guy made a costume out of trash cans. I thought it would be really dumb looking and hilarious, but instead it is one of the most bad ass Samurai costumes I have ever seen. Really impressive.
In case you are interested, I also found instructions on how to make samurai armor for under $50. Kind of cool, in a flashback to jr. high school way.
Sigh. Why does this disappoint me? I guess it is inevitable that some jackass on the website would boil down a lifetime of training and honor into a 4 step process on how to become a samurai. Anyone who thinks it's this easy should be beaten with rubber hoses and then dumped in a trashcan outside a meat packing plant. Seriously.
I think my favorite samurai will always be Samurai Jack. What a great cartoon. Of course, as usual I am more drawn to Aku. Very cool villain. I have the entire show on DvD and watch them frequently. All extremely cool, but the last one with the five bounty hunters is amazing.
