Jimmy Carter is a guy I like to think tried his best but still failed. In the last few years he has dedicated a lot of time and effort to charity work, particularly Habitat for Humanity, which I think is a good organization that helps with homes for people in trouble. They are currently working to help people in Haiti, where I think we can all agree needs a lot of help. Here is their site if you want to check it out
http://www.habitat.org/Jimmy Carter was the first president to be born in a hospital, which seems kind of weird but back in the day was normal. I guess in past years pregnancy was considered a normal part of life rather than a traumatic medical experience. On the other hand, infant mortality rates have dropped significantly so I guess the way we treat pregnancy now is a good thing.
There was never a connection established, but a few days before Carter's famous "malaise" speech (actually titled "Crisis in Confidence". Carter never used the word malaise) was the infamous Disco Demolition Riot at a White Sox/Tigers game. Apparently some rock radio DJ invited fans to bring disco album to the game and he was going to blow them up. The fans, mostly comprised of what are described as "stoned teenagers" opted to riot and burn the place down, earning the event a slot among the five worst baseball promotions of all times. Here is a list of all five that is pretty funny
http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/6960 . My personal favorite is the All You Can Eat Seats promotion. Free hot dogs and nachos combined with beer and an inability to restrain yourself is a recipe for bazooka barfing. It sounds like something that would have happened back in the 50's, but that one was in 2007. Go Fat America!
It always surprised me the stupid thing Americans find to riot about. Students are being run over by tanks for freedom of speech while Americans are fighting for their right to party.
