Tim Russ (Tuvak, from Voyager, as well as aspiring musician) was originally cast as La Forge.
The trivia also mentions that Westley Crusher was originally scripted as a girl, not a guy. Kind of explains a few things...
Anyway, here is a good
biography for Geordi. It's rare that I say I like a TNG character over a TOS character, but I am afraid I have to admit I like Georgi over Scotti. It pains me to admit it, but there it is.

Geordi La Forge is some kind of band in London. Normally British stuff is pretty cool, but one look at their "fans" makes me glad I have my never-listen-to-random-bands online policy.
