I never saw Jaws as a kid. My dad had the habit of taking the whole family to the drive in movies. Sounds good, but we would always see what he wanted to see, which was rarely appropriate for a seven year old child. I remember a couple of really good weeks wherein one week we saw One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (electroshock is cool and not at all frightening to a seven year old, or my sister at age five) and the next week we saw Orca, the Killer Whale. The idea of being attacked by a fish underwater so freaked me out that I wouldn't go in the water at the beach for years, and even now don't like to be in water that I cannot see the bottom of. Needless to say I avoided Jaws like the plague.
I saw it in college and laughed my ass off. That shark was so fake. Still kind of freaky.
As an aside, another fun part of our movie going experience was that mom would make us wear our pajamas so she could shove us into bed as soon as we got home. No way was that embarrassing when we would go to the restroom and see some older kids from our school.
I can't bring myself to look at any video of real shark attacks, so I have nothing to link you. I did find this
shark attack site, but only logged onto it long enough to get the URL, so you'll have to tell me how it is, if you have the stomach for it. On the other hand, I am totally cool with the
Batman shark attack scene from the movie, complete with rubber shark and the "Bat ladder".
