I have mentioned before that I used to have a Diet Coke habit that matched Fry's Slurm habit.  I literally couldn't go an hour without a DC, and the caffeine was doing bad stuff to my brain.  I quit cold turkey one day, and after a week of the worst headaches of my life, was free.  I still have the occasional soda, but only when I really need some kind of pick me up.

I'd like to say this is interesting, but really, it is not.  SLURM is some kind of open source program for Linux that does something with resources.  I might be able to understand it better if I bothered to read more on it, but really I dozed off after the first sentence.  It is an acronym standing for Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management.  Anything with a name that long doesn't sound simple to me.  Simple things have names like "gas pedal".  You step down on the pedal and go faster.  Simple. 

I have a bunch of friends who work for Mozilla on Firefox and to hear them talk open source is the greatest computer advancement since the invention of the cathode ray tube.  Honestly, it all sounds like the 21st century equivalent of the hippy free love I managed to miss out on from back in the 60's.  Besides, nothing is really free.  Somehow Mozilla manages to make money. 

Slurm is also a Flash game.  Like most of these games, it looks really stupid and boring until you start playing it and then it gets strangely addictive.  However, only the demo version seems to be available so I managed to not get hooked. 

Now this IS interesting.  The voice of Slurms McKensie was done by David Herman, the geeky white guy from Office Space.  He did a ton of other Futurama episodes as assorted voices, but this one seems to stand out in my head.  He also has done voices for Beavis and Butthead, American Dad, King of the Hill, The Drinky Crow Show (am I the only one who remembers and enjoyed that show?), Invader Zim, and Moral Oral.  He also played the Secretary of State in Idiocracy.  Sounds like a fun career.  Better than locked in a tiny office writing t-shirt descriptions. 

The guy who does the most voices in Futurama is the great Billy West.  He did Fry, Prof. Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, and Zap Brannigan.  I know him, however, as one of the greats from the Howard Stern Show.  The list of credits he has had in his career reads like a phone book of awesomeness.  Check him out.
