This movie kind of annoyed me, yet somehow I ordered two different Ferris Bueller shirts. No sure how I made that leap. I think an
alternate personality sometimes takes over when I am writing orders. Then the shipment arrives and I'm left saying "
what the hell is this?"
I can tell you one exact reason why this movie annoyed me. When it came out and hit big I was working at
Round Table Pizza (
still my favorite chain pizza) and the song
Twist and Shout was on our jukebox. Every
Yuppie dirtbag who rolled into that place with their ten year old spawn thought it was great to play (
and the really lame brained ones would do Ferris's dance. God I wish I had a camera phone back in those days, or at least a cell phone, now that I think about it). What they didn't realize is that the poor employees were listening to that song 6-10 times an hour. To this day that song gets me grinding my teeth.
Ferris himself annoys me, and not just for his
bad haircut. He was like every too cool jackass I knew in high school who got away with everything while I was getting
jaywalking tickets. I liked his friend Cameron. He seems cooler, in a weird, introverted way.
After the movie was a huge success, they made a TV show that sucked and then a TV clone show called
Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. Somehow it didn't annoy me as much. There were episodes I actually liked. Of course there was a serious of episodes where Parker gets punched in the face over and over again, which I enjoyed, but maybe it's that Parker was so over the top that it was just funny rather than annoying. Maybe it's just
Mathew Broderick I dislike.
The show had better support characters in my opinion. Also, if you look carefully you can find a very young
Milla Jovovich pre 5th Element in one episode. Very nice.
