I have mixed feelings about
Superman. Sure, he's a hero and has amazing powers, but I don't feel like he fits the true superhero mold. A superhero is created in great tragedy. Of course people always point out that
Krypton was destroyed, but he was a baby and has no memory of it. He grew up in small town America with the Kents. His only childhood problem was not burning up his own clothes. Furthermore he is too invulnerable. Sure,
Kryptonite hurts him, but really how much of that stuff do you find lying around? A true hero is one who any lowbie gangster could get lucky and hurt and/or kill, like Batman or Spiderman. Here is an
article that kind of expounds on this concept. It all boils down to
this.
Ever watch the old black and white 50's tv show? What is the deal with the criminals emptying their guns into him and then throwing the empty guns at him in frustration? Do they really think after having six bullets bounce off his chest they are going to stop him with a bruise?
