Up until now I have avoided anime t shirts, if only because, while I like a lot of it, I have no idea what is really popular. However, I think I need to if only because too many of my friends are into it. I'll start with the basics, like Dragonball Z, but eventually get into the more esoteric stuff.
Anyway, I have had this argument with people. Of course, since I actually watch more cartoons than anime I guess it's a moot point. On anime people tend to fall into three categories: people who appreciate anime and think I'm cool for watching it, people who think it's cartoons and I'm a kid for watching it, and people who think it's all weird Japanese sex and I'm a pervert for watching it. Most people tend to fall into the second category.
This show is supposed to be set in Pasadena. I dated a girl in Pasadena who, after we broke up, sort of stalked me. Kind of weird. Of course, here I am, single and bitching about it, so maybe I should have stayed with her.
Here is a site where you can watch
anime episodes for free. There's also an anime fan site called the
Anime News Network that has a lot of really good info. I also love that's it's a take off on CNN.
If you find yourself wondering where to draw the line between cartoons and anime here is a pretty good article on
how to tell anime from cartoons. This article is more serious than funny, so don't expect to laugh, but still pretty good.
Here is the episode of the
Big Bang Theory where Sheldon says this line. I'd say Penny's reaction is pretty typical of non-nerd women, so take it from me, don't show women anime unless they already have an interest. Even stuff like
Howl’s Moving Castle tends to lead to annoying questions and dates that end at 8:30pm, so spare yourself the pain.
